Frequently asked questions.

What is Thermography?

Thermography utilizes the capabilities of specialized cameras that are highly sensitive to the detection of electromagnetic energy (light) in infrared wavelengths (heat). When the camera’s detectors sense the incoming IR heat an electrical signal is produced that generates a visible image display.

MIR (medical infrared) is applied in the clinical world as a tool in the diagnostic process. It is used for the thermal analysis of patients with a variety of issues in acute, chronic and preventative healthcare.

Is Medical Infrared Imaging Safe?

Yes! Infrared imaging (thermography) uses no radiation, no contact, or intravenous access. The modality is painless, fully safe, and FDA approved as an adjunctive imaging procedure (to be used with other tests). Thermography does not replace any other type of imaging.

Is Thermography Experimental?

No! Based on the current research available, the US Dept. of Health Education & Welfare (HEW) determined it was beyond the experimental stage in 1972. Thermography was approved as an adjunctive imaging procedure by the FDA in 1982.

Do I need a referral from my health care provider?

No, you don’t need a referral, and you can schedule directly with me.

How Relevant is the Negative Coverage About Breast Thermography?

Yes, these releases are out there, and a common thread in each is the procedure was done incorrectly. When personnel is properly trained, and guidelines and protocols followed, breast thermography can be a life saving technology.

Does Thermography Replace Mammograms?

Absolutely not. Do mammograms replace thermography? Another no! These two are both options, along with ultrasounds and CT scans & MRIs, in a woman’s regular breast health care. An abnormal IR image is the single most important marker of high risk of developing breast cancer in the future. It is thermography’s unique ability to track the disparities in temperature & blood vessel changes produced by pathological breast tissue that allows for extremely early detection.

Who Reviews the Images Taken by Divine Thermography?

For the past 28 years, our overseeing doctor, Dr. William Amalu (Licensed Chiropractic Physician/Board Certified Clinical Thermologist/Medical Director of the International Association of Certified Thermographers) interprets all of our IR images and provides oversight and interpretation for offices and imaging centers worldwide.

Does Insurance Cover Thermography Imaging?

In our office, IR imaging is paid out of pocket through your choice of cash, credit or debit card.
