What Plays into Quality Clinical Infrared Imaging?

“What about the negative coverage thermography has gotten?”

That is a legitimate question with a solid answer…

A common theme in those reports is the fact that protocols have not been followed. Let’s look at three primary factors to insure effective imaging:

1) The Imaging System~a quality clinical infrared imaging system is greater than the sum of its component parts. All of the highest quality and proper specification parts mean nothing if they are not assembled and calibrated by skilled infrared imaging engineers. My brand of camera, Spectron, also only takes infrared images and can not turn them into forensic images. That is a safeguard I am really proud of in my brand.

2) Laboratory Standards~basic requirements are a must and key ones are: a minimum 8’x10’ room, homogenous heat temperature of 68-73*F, check all heat/cooling sources, carpeted floors, multiple thermometers to verify temperature, and no windows without coverings. If these aren’t followed, the images will not be correct. Proper protocols are non-negotiable.

3) Finally, Patient Preparation~this is vital. Acclimation to the room temperature, no crossed legs, no touching the part of the body being imaged because the heat from the hands affects the images, and How to Prepare standards followed prior to arriving (i.e. no make-up, no deodorant, no sun-tanning, no lotion), hair off the neck, and all jewelry removed are basic requirements that must be in place to guarantee proper results.

As you can see, it’s imperative to a successful thermogram for industry standards to be recognized and carried out.

Cheering you on,

Noelle
